This course offers committed students a supportive 'open' studio where they can foster their artistic development. The studio work will be accompanied by discussion, readings, evaluation and critiques in order to foster the individual's conceptual and technical growth. Students will be encouraged to develop a professional and dedicated approach to their art making through the development of a personal philosophy and practice. The course fee does not include the cost of glass, all other materials and firings are included. Maximum enrolment is 8.

Workshop (Intermediate Level) - "Borosilicate Goblet Making"
Andrew will demonstrate how to use borosilicate tubing to create goblets and small vessels. Participants will learn to work with the tools of goblet making, including cup shears and diamond sheers as well as the importance of heat base, gradation and annealing. Class will include demonstration on making the cup, foot and stem as well as assembly techniques. Participants will have an opportunity to build their own vessel and concentrate on individual challenges in hollow work.

Day 1 - In day one of the workshop you will be focussing on the amazing effects that Sarah gets from her glass. Focussing on the reactive colours within the 104 palette you will cover an introduction to colour reactions creating a series of beads including: Reactive rounds, glass tie-dye effects, Sarah's signature flower power beads.
Day 2 - On the second day you really get to free your mind and creative joices in the Freestyle focal fun session. On this day you will learn how to make: Streaky swirly beads, Liquid beads and the amazing Wig Wag stringer effects ending the day with Faux Retticello beads.
Intermediate/Advanced Workshop - Two Day Workshop 15 & 16 May 2010 (Annie Rose studio Whangarei)

Day 1 - In day one of the workshop you will be focussing on the amazing effects that Sarah gets from the use of silver. Focussing on the reactiveness of silver and the 104 palette you will learn how to make Sarah's signature style beads including: Organics with a twist, Space and Beyond (Kronos silvered glass and Raku) and also Magical beach beads.
Day 2 - On the second day you will get to use reactive frits and frufru as well as the use of Gold leaf, Dichro and Paladium. Gravity is our friend on this day as we use it to create shapes and styles including Sarah's famous silk beads.

BEAD MAKING CLASSES
Glass beadmaking is an increasingly popular worldwide trend. It is easy to learn and creatively satisfying with a wide range of colours to experiment with. Peter Viesnik who is a glass artist with nearly 30 years of practise is now holding a series of classes taching the techniques of glass bead making.
Participants learn to use a bench burner to melt glass to form beads and to make decorative details. Information is given on the history of beads, current trends on bead making and advice on equipment and supplies.
These classes are a series of four weekly evening sessions from 6.30 to 9.30pm. The cost is $350 which includes the use of all materials and equipment. There is also an option of a Saturday class from 10 to 4pm. The cost is $190.
Maximum of four participants per class.

Techniques of Glass Casting Workshop - Hamilton
Learn the techniques of Glass Casting over 2 1/2 informative and fun days. You will learn about modeling materials, mould making, glass selection, steaming, kiln loading and finishing/cold working techniques. During the course you will create 2 objects of Blackwood Lead Crystal Glass, using wax and clay as modeling materials.
Your tutor will be Di Tocker of dicastglass. Di completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (major Glass) ad RMIT Melbourne in 2002. Di is absolutely passionate about glass and has 6 years teaching experience.
There will be a maximum of 8 students in the workshop.
