Abby Noire Gubay

I am very passionate about glass sculpture, it is a culmination of other creative processes I have been involved in over the years ( colour matching, jewellery making, painting) and allows me full a full and complete expression which is both exciting and earthing at once.
In my work I love to mix colours. My work is about the relationship of heart and mind. I find the many faceted process of glass casting allows me to express a sense of belonging while reflecting upon the inner journey.
I love all the parts of the process, each so different. Sculpting in wax first is really fun. Making the mold from plaster is so messy and immediate, steaming out the wax always requires patience and care, the measuring of the glass, the combinations of the colours, the never knowing how they will mix or where they will land in the mold is exciting. Breaking open the mold to reveal a unique art work is the moment it all comes together, and then the finishing work on the grinder, by hand, with diamond papers, brings it lovingly to completion.
As each part of the process unfolds, always with a small percentage of chaos and experimentation going on within the structure of the process, i find my life unfolding metaphorically. Each piece is a personal journey.
